HP Victus 16 is one of the most powerful and affordable gaming laptops for resource-intensive gaming. The Victus line is an affordable alternative to the HP Omen series, but with less power. The company changed its approach and introduced a 16-inch screen with a fairly bright and anti-glare coating.
The device belongs to the mid-range laptops with a balanced price-performance ratio. It includes useful additions: an HDMI 2.1 connector, several USB-A slots, a large trackpad, a fairly thin body and RGB keyboard backlighting. It is equipped with the latest Intel and AMD processors with Nvidia GeForce graphics.
Victus model range and positioning
The HP Victus 16 is available in two integrations — Intel and AMD. Both models offer a wide range of features and capabilities.
- The AMD model is more affordable in terms of price and quality. It has a 16.1-inch display. It offers a resolution of 1920x1080 and a brightness level of 250 nits with a refresh rate of 144 Hz.
- Intel is inferior to AMD in running games, as the version received more cores and threads. The screen reduces the load on the battery, which requires only 170 W. As a result, the battery life increases. The performance is well optimized for multi-threading and parallel computing.
A laptop with an AMD processor will cost less than its counterpart.
In Full HD resolution, the Victus 16 is capable of smoothly running almost all modern games at maximum settings. At the same time, with impressive graphics and good performance.
Design and construction
The exterior is attractive, reminiscent of an ultrabook with rounded corners. The body is plastic, strong and stable. However, the area above the touchpad and around the arrow keys bends a little. The lower frame is thicker — 23.9 mm — for improved airflow when cooling the internal hardware.
The build quality is good, without any gaps. The outer surface is soft and susceptible to scratches. The lid cannot be opened with one hand, as the hinges are quite tight. The hinge of the case is weak and loose, which causes the screen to wobble. Therefore, working on the go can be annoying when trying to concentrate.
The display flexes a bit, but the keyboard is solid. There's plenty of room for your fingers between the buttons. The feedback is clicky and springy when pressed. There are Intel Core (AMD) and Nvidia stickers on the panel next to the keyboard. There are long ventilation grilles above the keyboard controls.
The device has a matte shade of muted dark gray or blue finish with a mirrored chrome V logo on the lid. The metallic color is able to change its reflection depending on the angle. Fingerprints remain on the case.
The keyboard trim is a shade lighter thanks to RGB lighting. On the right side of the keyboard, there is a numeric keypad, the keys of which are slightly smaller than the central part. The Enter key is single-spaced, and the cursor keys are smaller in size. In the OMEN Gaming Hub, you can configure a static backlight of one color for the entire keyboard panel. The lighting is only noticeable in the dark.
The touchpad is large and sensitive. Its surface is not too smooth. It tracks all movements and gestures well, there are no problems with palm deflection or dragging. The pressing is quite pleasant, without the possibility of clicking on the top of the touchpad.
There are two long rubber feet, two speaker cutouts, and large ventilation grilles on the bottom. Heat escapes through the rear and left vents. The rear vent is located near the hinge, so under heavy loads, hot air can get onto the display.
