Wi-Fi Range Extender
Warranty1 Year Warranty

A Wi-Fi range extender solves a familiar problem: the internet is great in the living room, but in the bedroom, on the balcony or upstairs it weakens and drops. The device picks up your router's signal and passes it on, so the network reaches rooms the router cannot cover alone. Most models plug straight into a wall socket, with no cables to run and no need to replace the router.

How to choose a Wi-Fi range extender

  • Wi-Fi standard. Wi-Fi 5 is enough for browsing and streaming. Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 7 handle many devices at once better and suit fast internet plans. Match the standard to your router: a new extender works with an old router, but at the old standard's speed.
  • Speed. The class on the box, such as AC750, AC1200 or AX3000, is the combined speed of all bands, not what one device gets. The higher the number, the more bandwidth is left after extending.
  • Dual band. 2.4 GHz reaches further and passes through walls better, 5 GHz is faster. A dual-band extender suits almost any home, especially with many neighbouring networks around.
  • LAN port. It lets you connect a computer, TV or console by cable near the extender. Many models can also be wired to the router and run as an access point, and then speed does not drop.
  • Mesh support. Extenders with EasyMesh, OneMesh or AiMesh form one network with one name together with a compatible router, and devices move between them on their own. Check that your router supports the same technology.

Extender, mesh or powerline

SolutionWhen it fitsWhat to know
Range extenderOne or two rooms with a weak signalThe simplest, most affordable option: plug it in, no cables
Mesh systemLarge flat, house, several floorsReplaces your home Wi-Fi and covers the house with several units
Powerline adaptersThick walls that block the signalThe network runs over the home's electrical wiring, so results depend on its condition
Access pointA network cable can be run to the spotThe fastest and most stable option, also suits businesses

If the router itself is old or lacks modern Wi-Fi, replacing it is sometimes the better choice: see wireless routers.

FAQ

Where should I place a Wi-Fi range extender?

Halfway between the router and the weak spot, where the router's signal is still good. Placed too far away, it extends a weak signal and speed stays low. On most models an indicator shows whether the spot is right.

Does a range extender work with any router?

Yes. An extender works with any standard Wi-Fi router, including routers supplied by internet providers. Setup is done with the WPS buttons or through an app.

Does a range extender reduce speed?

An extender that talks to the router and to devices on the same band splits the bandwidth, so speed drops. A dual-band model reduces the loss, and wiring the extender to the router nearly removes it.

Do I need a new network name and password?

Not necessarily. You can keep the name and password of your existing network or set up a separate one during installation. With mesh support, a phone moves between router and extender more smoothly.

How many extenders can I connect?

You can connect several, but connect each one directly to the router rather than to each other, otherwise every step loses speed. In a large home a mesh system gives a better result.
