The Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) / Thunderbolt 2 adapter allows you to connect Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 devices (such as external hard drives and Thunderbolt docking stations) to any Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port on your MacBook Pro.
This bi-directional adapter also allows you to connect Thunderbolt 3 devices to Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 ports on Mac with macOS Sierra or newer.
In addition, it allows you to connect monitors with Thunderbolt ports, such as the Apple Thunderbolt monitor or LG Thunderbolt 2 monitors, to any of the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports on your MacBook Pro. However, a power source is required to connect an Apple Thunderbolt monitor through this adapter because the adapter does not provide power for the monitor.
Note. This adapter does not support DisplayPort monitors, such as the Apple LED Cinema monitor or monitors with third-party DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort ports.
